In the process of preparing for preaching and teaching Malachi this Sunday this phrase, “Watch Yourselves” keep repeating itself in my mind. The verse is Malachi 2:16 in the latter part of the verse. It says:
“Therefore, watch yourselves carefully, and do not act treacherously.”
I’m speaking specifically to the Christian today. How many Christians actually take this principle to heart? I mean, how many are actually watching themselves. We already participate in too many worldly events. So much so that the world cannot tell the difference from themselves and us.
Face the fact that when Christians participate in worldly events, it is sin. Oh, but its innocent stuff you are doing? Oh, really? When does God allow innocent sin to go unpunished? Well we just do it for the children! Oh, really? So it’s permissible to teach our children that we can participate in worldly events and still be a Christian?
I’m frankly astonished that we actually believe and live this!
2 Corinthians 6:15-16 puts a line drawn in the sand for believers. I didn’t put it there. God did. We choose to cross it.
“What agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? And what agreement does God’s sanctuary have with idols? For we are the sanctuary of the living God as God said; I will dwell among them and walk with them, and I will be their God and they will be My people.”
God has drawn a line in the sand. Do we dare cross it? Watch yourselves; lest you do!
